Leaders in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have demanded apology from President Goodluck Jonathan for having nothing except abandoned projects to show in the area for his over five years in office as President.
Jonathan is from Otuoke, a village in the local government.
They accused him of condoning his main contractor and friend, Barr. Azibaola Robert, the CEO of Kakaatar Engineering Limited, who has left behind uncompleted projects in the entire local government area.
In a resolution passed by community leaders of the area after a meeting, they gave their support to Comrade Oniekpar Ikuli, the Director of Mobilisation of the Ijaw Youth Council, who has sued the contractor over the abandoned projects and for him to pay for services rendered for Jonathan during the campaign in 2015.
To the community leaders, though they had the opportunity to produce the President, Jonathan’s tenure had not benefited the people of the area as even contracts were awarded to companies owned by Jonathan’s friends and that they have abandoned the projects.
The leaders said they have decided to come out so that the government of Muhammadu Buhari could take actions in this regard as their own son was not able to pressure the contractors into executing the projects.
Moreover, the government of President Jonathan is currently winding up.
The leaders listed some of the contracts awarded to Kakaatar Engineering Limited but which it had failed to execute as Shore erosion control works at Akipilai, Ayakoro and Otuoke towns awarded by the Ministry of Transport at a cost of N7,503,344,599; Construction of 2000 rooms hostel at Federal University, Otuoke at the cost of N4 billion and awarded by NDDC; Otuoke/Ikima Internal road network of N4 billion awarded by NDDC; Opume/Okoroba 9.5 Km Road at the cost of N10 billion awarded by NDDC and the Bayelsa State Cargo Airport (Sandfilling) 4 Million Cubic of Sand at N10 billion.
Outside Ogbia and Bayelsa, Kakaatar, the contracting firm, is said to be linked with the shipbuilding/dockyard construction (civil and infrastructure), Delta State at the cost of N18,457,283,591.91 awarded by the NIMASA; the provision of engineering infrastructure, Kyami District, Abuja at the cost of N60,887,492,656.65 awarded by FCTA; the Karshi-Ara Road in FCT at a cost of N4,097,185,656.30 awarded by the FCT Ministry and the 14km Mbaise-Ngwa Road in Imo State at the cost of N2.94 billion awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The community leaders said they had compiled all the abandoned projects and would send same to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a petition soon.
