Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has rewarded Sergeant Mercy John, a female Police officer who through her bravery, single-handedly disarmed two robbers who attempted to dispossess her of her belongings.
Though the worth of the reward was not made public at the time of this report, Fashola, at the event which held at the Lagos House, Ikeja, shortly before the state’s security council meeting, encouraged her not to relent in her efforts in the course of her duty.
“Let me say very clearly that I value the work that you do, people of Lagos value what you do and whereever you come from, this is your home and I think it is right to say that it was because you take this as home that you did the right thing,” Fashola said.

Sergeant Mercy John, a native of Ikori Local Government Area of Cross River State, was enlisted into the Police Force on 1st July, 2000 and had earlier served in MOPOL 20, Force Ikeja from 2004 to 2012. She is currently attached to the Provost’s Department, State Police Headquarters, Lagos State.
On 10th February, 2015, at Egbeda-Shasha by Tawakalitu Close, Orisunmibare Road, Lagos, John had disarmed two armed robbers who attempted to rob her of her bag and recovered a locally made pistol with two live cartridges in the process.
