Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Research, Documentation and Strategy, Mr. Oronto Douglas, is dead.
Douglas passed on at the State House clinic at 4:58 a.m Thursday at the age of 49 after suffering from a yet to be disclosed ailment which had seen him travelling to the US for prolonged periods, according to presidency sources.
Douglas was regularly described as one of most brilliant and influential aides to President Jonathan.
He was saddled with documenting the achievements of the President and his legacies.
His office also coordinated parallel media and campaign strategies for the presidency.
Before his appointment, he was a human rights attorney in Nigeria, and served as one of the lawyers on the defense team for the Ogoni leader Ken Saro Wiwa, who was executed by Nigeria’s military rulers in 1995 by the military junta of the late General Sani Abacha.
