Nigeria’s former Minister of External Affairs, Idi Hong, and former Senate Majority Leader, Jonathan Zwingina were among some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, who, on Wednesday announced that they were moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

This is as reports also evolved that former Governor of Abia State and founder of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Orji Uzor Kalu, has concluded plans to join the APC. The defectors are mainly those who lost their various bids to return to the National Assembly. Idi Hong and Zwingina were joined in the decision by Senators Bello Tukur and Ahmed Barata, two serving senators on the platform of the PDP.

Making the announcement on behalf of the defectors at a press conference in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, Zwingina said their decision was to ensure that the governorship candidate of the APC in the state, Bindow Jibrilla, wins the election scheduled for Saturday. At the press conference which held after a meeting with the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, Zwingina said they were positive of the change going on in the country. “We believe in the candidacy of Bindow,” he said.
