One person has been confirmed dead while many others sustained severe injuries as thugs and security agents loyal to the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, clashed with thugs and supporters of the 19 embattled lawmakers of the State who are moving to impeach the Governor.
Signs of a major trouble began on Tuesday morning when residents of the state woke up to the discovery that major entry and exit points into the state had been taken over by security agents and hoodlums on the orders of the Governor.
Huhuonline.com learnt that the Governor and his deputy, Kolapo Olusola, decided on the action after receiving security report that the lawmakers would be coming into the state on Monday evening to effect the impeachment of the Governor and the deputy on Tuesday morning.
On Monday evening, the Deputy Governor of the State had led thugs and security agents to the state House of Assembly in anticipation that the lawmakers could sit to begin the impeachment process against Fayose.
Discovering that the lawmakers did not turn up, Huhuonline.com learnt that the Governor’s supporters mobilised again on Tuesday morning and blocked major entrances and exits against the lawmakers who the government said were hibernating in Osun State.
The lawmakers, led by their Speaker, Adewale Omirin, while entering the state capital, Ado-Ekiti, met a stiff resistance at the Efon-Alaaye Junction close to the state capital.
A clash between the two factions led to the death of one of the supporters of the Governor whose name was given as Modupe Olaiya.
Sevaral others were injured in a situation that resulted in chaos as residents scampered into their houses, government and business activities shuting down.
The lawmakers could not enter into the town and had to return to their base.
The state government has accused a member of House, Hon. Gabriel Ogundele, of firing the shot that killed Modupe Olaiya.
The lawmakers were yet to react at the time of filing this report.
