Insurgents in Nigeria have abducted the Vice Chairman of Hong Local Government Area in Adamawa State, Bijida Yakubu, Police in the state has said.
The abduction occurred when the insurgents attacked Gayafa village.
Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Othman Abubakar, who confirmed the incident, added that three vigilante members who were with him when the insurgents struck, were killed before he was whisked away.
He said the police has begun investigating the incident but that so far, the police have only recovered the Vice Chairman’s shoes.
The incident was also confirmed by the Chairman of the Adamawa State branch of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Alhaji Sahabo Gurin.
A witness said the Vice Chairman, a native of the Gayafa village, was on an assessment visit with some hunters to the scene of the incident when the insurgents attacked, over-powered the hunters and then took him away.
“About seven insurgents were killed in the encounter before they over-powered the hunters and took away the vice chairman,” the witness who gave his name as Hussaini, said.
