Spread the love

Val`s, – The Dance Studio, a legacy in dance in honour of the memory of the late Valentine Humphrey Arewe Aneke, who passed away 20 years ago (February 15th, 1995 – a day after Valentine’s day), has opened in Lagos.

The studio was set up by Angela Aneke, daughter of the late Mr. Valentine Aneke.

Explaining why she set up the studio, Ms Aneke said that her father, while in the UK studying Civil Engineering in the 1950s, enrolled at the Frank and Peggy Spencer Dance School in Penge, London where he excelled in Ballroom and Latin dance.

“Nicky” as he was called by his fellow contestants, who had difficulty pronouncing his surname, won several Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in Ballroom and Latin dance.”

The studio, she said, has been set up to honour her late father’s love, passion and achievements in dance.

The studio will offer classes for children and adults in Ballroom, Latin, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Dance Fitness and Bespoke dance Programmes. Master Classes will be in Ballroom, Latin, Jazz and Hip Hop and Ballet dance genres. The first in the series of Master Classes in Ballroom and Latin commenced on February 16th, 2015 and will be on for two weeks.

Peggy Spencer, now 94 years old and the President of the Imperial Society for Teachers of Dancing, UK is the Founding Patron of the Val’s-The Dance Studio.

As part of the opening events for the studio, a flash mob held at The Palms. Also a medley dance performance event for family and friends was held at the Studio on Sunday, February 15, 2015. The dance performance included the Rumba in a V Formation to honour the Late Valentine Aneke, whose favourite dance was the Rumba.
