The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued guidelines for the accreditation of journalists who intend to cover the 2015 General Elections.
The guidelines which have since been uploaded on the Commission’s website insist that media organisations intending to send representatives to report the election procedures must apply to INEC for the accreditation of every individual.
According to the guidelines, relevant application forms are available online at www.inecnigeria.org or may be collected in person (from Monday, 9th February 2015 to Friday, 13th February 2015 from 8.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. from the Department of Voter Education and Publicity at the INEC Headquarters Annex, No. 10, Blantyre Street, (Near Barcelona Hotel) Wuse II, Abuja or from the state (head) offices of INEC for media organisations/journalists intending to cover the elections in the respective states.
The guidelines further insist that applications (for accreditation) must be received not later than 6th February 2015 and that accredited journalists, like every observer in the polling environment, shall be subject to the directive of/and prohibitions by the Presiding Officer.
