A fire outbreak at a popular market at the Marina area of Lagos Island on Friday Morning has resulted in loss of goods worth several millions of naira.
According to witnesses, fire began at about 4am at the popular Berlin Market located at the Central Business District, close to the Lagos office of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the head office of the First bank Plc.
As at the time of this report, fire service officials who responded to the distress call could not pin point the immediate cause of the incident.
However witnesses said it could be the result of poor electrical connection in one of the shops in the market.
It was learnt that police officers were also drafted to the scene after getting reports that hoodlums and petty thieves had invaded the area and were carting away rescued goods.
The week had seen series of fire incidents in the state starting with the Balogun Market also on the Lagos Island.
The state government has continued to warn residents to be cautious during the dry season because of the high possibility of fire outbreaks from small sparks during the season.
