Irate youths in Jos, Plateau State on Saturday evening went after campaign buses of President Goodluck Jonathan and all other buses branded with the logo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), vandalising them and setting them on fire.
The youths, who chanted anti-Jonathan songs, destroyed the vehicles while operatives of the Joint Task Force drafted to the scene of the incident, looked the other way, not being able to disperse the mob.
It was learnt that the youths were angry that Jonathan could begin campaign in the State which has been a victim of insecurity leading to the death of many residents.
They argued that many of their people have died either through attacks by the Boko Haram sect or the Fulani herdsmen, most times with the government doing nothing to stem the attacks.
Some of them complained that officials of the Joint Task Force had done their best considering the challenges the officials were facing from the government.
The buses were at Zololo junction, Bauchi Road just as Gyang Pwajok, the PDP’s governorship candidate in the state returned from Lagos where he was handed the party’s flag. No death was recorded in the incident.
The incident resulted in confusion as residents scampered to safety, many abandoning their duties and activities to run home.
At the time of this report, the vehicles were still burning and many streets around the area had been deserted.
