The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a budget proposal of N489, 689, 869, 621 being the exact estimate for the 2015 fiscal year presented to the House in November 2014 by the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola.
Before passing the budget, the members of the House had re-examined the proposal through the Committee on Supply after which it was read a third time.
The bill, as passed by the House, has a breakdown of N241, 976, 638, 387 for recurrent expenditure and N247,713,231,234 for capital expenditure.
A further breakdown shows that Works had the highest allocation of N72.250 billion and is followed by Education which has N52.209 billion.
Some of the others include Health which has N32.4 billion, Housing which has N28.67 billion, Transport which has N27.8 billion, and the Environment which has N22.76 billion.
Also the House of Assembly got N8.73 billion, Science and Technology got N3.94 billion, Judiciary got N3.44 billion, Information and Strategy got N2.4 billion, and Agriculture and Co-operatives got N2.17 billion.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, advised the executive arm to ensure that the budget is implemented to the letter like every other laws of the state.
Ikuforiji, who noted that it would be the 10th and last budget he would be presiding over, thanked the various House committees saying the members worked tirelessly.
“We would have passed the budget in 2014, but for some ministries which did not come up with their documents in time.
“I want to commend the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget and other committees for a job well done,” Ikuforiji said.
“This House therefore directs the Executive arm to diligently and conscientiously implement provisions of this 2015 budget as passed by this Assembly.
“We remain a veritable partner of the Executive in managing the affairs of the state. We will always work together to take Lagos to the Promised Land.
“No section or area of Lagos State should suffer social amenities and infrastructural development if this budget is religiously executed.
“We have always tried to satisfy the yearnings of Lagosians in the provision of adequate security and life-changing amenities, we will continue unabated to do this, especially as we enter into an election year.”
