A socio-religious group, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has appealed to the Federal Government to urgently secure the life of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi of Kano State, following a threat on him by the leader of the Boko Haram group, Abu Shekau, in a new video.
In the video, Shekau, whose boys have wreacked havoc in most parts of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Kano, said Sanusi was a major target for asking the people to arm themselves against invasion and attack by the sect.
Last month, while Sanusi was in Saudi Arabia, a bomb exploded in the mosque where he worships, located close to his palace. Over 100 people died in the attack.
On Thursday, the MURIC said in a statement by its director, Ishaq Akintola, that Nigeria should not take the threat by the Boko Haram with levity.
Akintola therefore urged for a block of security around the Emir and his palace and also appealed to the nation’s security body to take the threat seriously.
He further said that apart from the Emir, the Nigerian security forces must intensify security around top religious leaders including presidents and secretaries of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) as well as the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).
While urging for proactive steps and actions, the group also urged Nigerians to always be alert for possible attacks.
