Speaker of the House of Representatives,  Aminu Tambuwal has asked a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to help find out why the Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, decided to disobey the ruling of the court on the maintenance of status quo in relation to a case brought to the court by the Speaker.

Tambuwal, is asking the court for an injunction to stop the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from removing him as the Speaker of the House after he defected from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abba, who appeared before a committee of the House of Representatives over the alleged shameful actions of his men, last week Thursday, said he did not recognise Tambuwal as the Speaker arguing instead that his decision is predicated on the fact that the case is in court.

He simply referred to Tambuwal as Alhaji Tambuwal and this infuriated the committee members making them end the session abruptly.

Tambuwal, in his fresh argument before the court, through his scores of lawyers led by Mr. Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), said Abba had serially disobeyed the court order made on 7th November 2014.

The Speaker, in a fresh application he filed before Justice Ahmed Mohammed, complained that Abba’s instruction to the policemen to deny him access into the premises of the National Assembly, thereby preventing him from carrying out his lawful duties on 20th November, meant that the Inspector-General was flouting the order of the court.

“On 7th November 2014, when this matter came up the 5th defendant (the Inspector General of Police) was represented in court by a learned senior counsel, Ade Okeaya-Inneh (SAN),” Tambuwal’s counsels said.

“The learned senior counsel for the 5th defendant informed the honourable court that the fifth defendant was duly served with the originating summons in this suit.

“This honourable court thereafter ordered that party should maintain status quo pending on the determination of the substantive suit.”

He added that everybody except Suleiman Abba, Esq, who is the Inspector General of Police, has been obeying the order of this honourable court made on 7th November 7, 2014.

Tambuwal is seeking an order of the court directing Suleiman Abba to appear in person and to show cause why he should not be committed to prison for contempt of the order of the court ordering maintenance of status quo on 7th November 2014 and/or for acting in manners and ways which showed disrespect to court.
