Apparently frustrated by the inability of the Nigerian troop to stem the growing insurgency in the country, Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has asked Nigerians, especially those in the Boko Haram affected states of the federation, to defend themselves against the terrorists.
Making a remark at the weekly recitation of the Holy Quran for peace in Nigeria, the Emir asked leaders in the various communities to start building hopes and courage in the people and build the youths in the communities to prepare themselves and defend their communities.
He said in situations like this, people should not abandon their families, women and children and run out of their various communities.
He noted that when the Boko Haram members strike, they kill the men and enslave girls and women.
He said people must not assume that the crisis will not reach their area, adding that if it comes, he and others pray to God to give fortitude to the residents.
“But if He wishes to take martyrs from amongst us, we should be ready to give our lives,” Sanusi said.
“People must not wait for soldiers to protect them. There are even instances where soldiers on ground ran away in the face of attack.”
