Scores of people have been killed in a suicide bombing act in Potiskum the Yobe State capital on Monday.
According to eye witnesses the explosion occurred while the Shia Muslim brotherhood was on a procession to observe the 10th Day of Muharram 1436 celebration.
According to witnesses and the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Markus Danladi, the suicide bomber pretended to be a worshiper and was in the procession before detonating the bomb around 11 am.
Most of the dead were women and children, witnesses said.
As at the time of reporting, Police and other security agencies were busy clearing off the area to avert further attack. The casualty figure is yet unknown.
“A suicide bomber was among the Shia group and detonated his explosive device, killing members of the group, but I am still on my way to the scene of the incident,” Danladi said.
The entire area has presently been condoned off by security men as residents remain in their various locations to avoid being victims of any attack.
