Ahead of the 8th October declaration of interest to run for the presidential election in 2015, Muhammadu Buhari leader of Nigeria’s opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC), has described the election a ‘watershed’ in the history of Nigeria.
Buhari said this on Wednesday in Ekiti State where he also declared that Nigeria was no longer safe in the hands of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
While inaugurating a 12,000-Seater Ekiti Parapo Square in Ado-Ekiti, Buhari appealed to the people of the state to vote out the PDP if they wanted the country to develop fast rather than the snail-speed approach for which the PDP had become known to issues about the country.
“We have been traumatised with what is happening,” Buhari said. “You here are mostly the elite. Please try and realise that Nigeria is in trouble. If we carry on the way the ruling party is carrying on, then the nation is heading towards a serious crisis.”
He appealed to the people to go and pick their voter cards and be prepared since that is one means through which the PDP meanders to victory.
Stating that the merger of political parties into the APC is aimed at forging a force against the PDP, Buhari added: “that is why it is important for us elites to talk to the less privileged to collect their permanent voter cards in preparation for the 2015 elections. This is the only missile against the PDP tyranny.
“We must take this seriously because the APC is seriously determined to offer a better alternative platform for Nigerians. So we have to be prepared for next year elections,” he said.
“Nigeria deserves democracy and we are going to get it God willing next year.”
Buhari commended Governor Kayode Fayemi for executing the project and for outstanding performance the last four years he was on the saddle adding: “I want to believe that all these legacy projects will remain in his name forever even after leaving office.”
