The reception given to Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero at Fadan Karshi, in Sanga Local Government Council, LGC, in Southern part of Kaduna State on Monday was in no way welcoming. Half naked women jeered and threw objects at his unusually long convoy while showering expletives on him at the same time.

The women were angry that after more than seven attacks on their villages, more than 300 villagers were killed since last July, the governor had not visited the place until a few weeks to the primary elections.

Apart from the nude protest, residents of the local government presented a letter to the governor through the District Head of Fadan Karshi. In the letter the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) alleged that the killings that occurred in Sanga LGC, was carried out by terrorists and that 300 lives had been lost in the invasions.

The letter read:

We have suffered gruesome massacre as members of the Christian community in Sanga Local government, as a body. We the Christian Association of Nigeria, Sanga Local Government chapter wish to passionately appeal that, as a matter of urgency, you kindly use your good office to arrest this ugly development by ending these terrible attacks on our peace-loving and defenseless people.

A careful consideration of the attacks that have been launched on various communities in Sanga LGA from June 23rd to the most recent one which occurred on 16th & 17th of September, has clearly revealed that these attacks were carefully planned and carried out by some terrorist Islamic fundamentalists mainly on Christians within the Local government.

Over 300 lives of Christians have been wasted through these attacks. Our children, women, including pregnant women and the aged, our clergymen, Churches, pastors’ residence and our properties have been the sole and main targets of these attacks.

We must clearly state that this sad, ugly and unprovoked attacks have over-stretched the patience of the Christian community in Sanga LGA to engage us in a religious war which is not in our nature and tradition as Christians.

It is our earnest prayer to Almighty God and to you that concrete steps shall be taken to ensure there is no further attack on any community in the Local Government area from henceforth.

Mr. Bezard Wuyah, National President of Ninzom Progressive Youths told reporters in Kaduna about the visit of the governor to Karshin Daji and Fadan Karshi.

“The governor came with hundreds of soldiers, policemen, Roads Safety Corps, SSS, even with a detachment of Prison Guards,” Wuyah said.

“It was more of an invasion, not a condolence visit. Our mothers and sisters who were expecting a sober, caring governor were furious when they saw that it was as a form of intimidation against them so they don’t bare their minds on the negligence they had suffered since gunmen sacked their villages and rendered them homeless?

“That was why they were protesting and asking that the governor kills them so that they die and rest. They refused to be cowed.”

Wuyah however maintained that Sanga natives are law abiding.

Yero who was visibly abashed managed to plead with the people to be patient and be peace abiding in a brief remark before returning to Kaduna, the state’s capital.
