The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III has called on all leaders to always speak the truth under any condition they may find themselves.
The Sultan gave the admonition while receiving former Head of State, retired General Muhammadu Buhari in his palace in Sokoto on Friday.
Abubakar expressed sadness over the numerous killings by the insurgents, pointing out that leaders who are closer to the people, like himself and other traditional rulers feel more of the people’s pains because they are closer to the masses.
“It moves us to discharge our responsibility by informing the appropriate quarters on the killings, especially in the northern parts of the country,” he said.
He called on the Nigerians to support leaders that worked for the development of the society, maintaining that doing so will encourage the leaders to have more confidence in ruling the society.
He advised all leaders in the country to always put the fear of God in mind while conducting all their affairs.
He thanked Buhari for the visit, and prayed for all Nigerians to live in peace and have good health.
Responding, Buhari commended the sultan for his fatherly leadership and for his sustained efforts to ensure the unity of Nigeria. He thanked the state government for executing projects that touched on the lives of all the people and their needs.
Also speaking at the occasion, Aliyu Wamakko, governor of Sokoto State also thanked Buhari for the visit.
