The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Sunday disclosed that the casualty figure in the collapsed 6-storey building in the premises of the Synagogue Church of All Nations has risen to 39.

On Saturday, NEMA had explained that while 16 were killed in the incident, 109 others were rescued alive and receiving treatment.

The affected building is an extension of the church and specially built for visitors and foreigners by Prophet Temitope Joshua.

The building located in the Ikotun area of Lagos, collapsed on Friday but Prophet Joshua said the security camera in his church showed that three helicopters had hovered around the church shortly before the incident.

NEMA said between Saturday and Sunday, the casualty figure had risen to 39 while the 130 had been rescued alive and rushed to the Isolo and Alimosho General Hospitals.

“We are still searching for those trapped in the building so the figure may increase later,” NEMA spokesperson, Ibrahim Farinloye had said adding that NEMA was working with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
