Nigeria’s government has restated its determination to flush out the dreaded Islamic extremist sect, Boko Haram from their strong holds in the north-eastern region of the country.

To this end, the Nigerian military authorities have deployed more than 500 troops as backup for personnel already on ground in the affected region.

“Military authorities have confirmed the renewed deployment of more than 500 troops to support the expedition around that area,” the Coordinator, National Information Centre, Mr. Mike Omeri, said on Thursday in Abuja while giving update on security in the area.

He mentioned that communities like Gulak, Michika, Kunchinga and other communities in Adamawa, where Boko Haram is currently holding would be the first point of call.

“We believe that with this commitment and the additional deployment, the situation will be brought under control,” Omeri said.

He clarified that the insurgents did not seize Mubi, but that situation report indicates that Mubi town is calm. He assured that security operatives including the police and other services were patrolling the town to guard against any offensive from the Boko Haram.
