The rank of the All Progressives Congress (APC) dwindled further on Tuesday as Chief Tom Ikimi, one of its leaders and face of the merger that saw four parties becoming APC, dumped the party.
Ikimi had threatened to leave the party after he had complained of not being carried along in the scheme of things.
Ikimi had began nursing anger against APC following the way he was treated while vying for the position of the party’s National Chairman which was finally won by former governor of Edo State, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
Ikimi, the former National Chairman of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC), announced his decision to leave the party in a letter to the leadership of APC on Tuesday.
“I have made the decision to withdraw my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) from today, 27th August 2014,” Ikimi stated in the letter, without giving reasons for his decision or stating if he would move over to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
However, it is being speculated that he could move over to the PDP from where he had moved to defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). He had served as the Chairman of the PDP National Convention Presidential Election Panel in January 2003.
Days ago, the APC reportedly pressured him with the position of the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT), but Ikimi allegedly rejected the position.
