The Federal Government of Nigeria remains devoted to wiping off the Ebola virus disease from the country, Minister for Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka, has assured.

He gave the assurance on Tuesday while addressing the media on critical points his administration would look work on.

He said the government have measures in place to ensure that infected persons were not allowed into the country, adding that screening centres have been set up at airports for this purpose.

“I assumed office at a critical period when the Ebola Virus came into Nigeria, and one of the main things I touched during my visit to the Lagos Airport was to review the medical procedures put in place by the authorities at the airport to properly screen passengers,” Chidoka said.

“I want to use this forum to assure Nigerians that the Federal Government is doing all that it can to ensure that Nigerians are protected from this deadly disease. Already, we have seen the proactive measures taken by the president in this regards.”

He reassured everyone of government’s assurance to keep Nigerians safe and to make sure that the country is not a transit point for the disease.

“The Ebola thing is not a political, tribal, or religious issue, therefore, it is something that we all must come together to fight,” he added.

He assured that all the unions, airlines, operatives and stakeholders’ were in agreement to keep the airport Ebola-free.

Chidoka also said his administration was committed to creating investment opportunities in the industry and work with stakeholders’ feedback on the content of the Aviation Master-plan.

He added that the President Goodluck Jonathan would be briefed on all the concerns that have been raised by stakeholders and agencies and on what urgently needed to be done to keep the industry running with best practices obtainable around the world.
