Following a statement by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), issuing an ultimatum to President Goodluck Jonathan to rescue the more than 200 girls abducted in Chibok, Borno State on 15th April, or lose the support of the group in the 2015 election, Jonathan has said no group can threaten him before he performs his official duties.
According to his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, the president said it was wrong for any group to issue a threat asking him to rescue Chibok schoolgirls before he could get the support of any person or group for his 2015 presidential ambition.
Jonathan asserted that work is already going on to rescue the abducted girls.
The NEF had threatened that the region would not support Jonathan for re-election in 2015 if he failed to bring back the girls. Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed, issued the threat while addressing Journalists in Kaduna on behalf of NEF’s chairman, Solomon Dalung. Ahmed had alleged that most of the conflicts in the northern part of the nation were being engineered to weaken the North politically and economically by interests, which intended to exploit such weaknesses for electoral benefits.
