The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday fixed 11th October for a new governorship election in Adamawa State following the recent impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako by the state House of Assembly.
The announcement is coming almost four weeks after Nyako was impeached and after queries from some sections of Nigeria on why the state’s House of Assembly had refused to formally inform INEC of the change.
Making the announcement, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Kasim Gaidam, said this was to fulfill the stipulation of the country’s constitution that a new election be conducted three months (90 days) after any impeachment.
