The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Sunday commended Nigerians, particularly the people of Ekiti State for their enviable peaceful conduct before, during and after the 21st June gubernatorial election held in the state.

Abubakar expressed satisfaction with the very high level of comportment, discipline, orderliness, patience and understanding exhibited by the citizens throughout the period of the election.

“Of special interest to the IGP is the huge assistance extended to the Police and other law enforcement agencies by the citizens which made the election hitch-free,” Abubakar said in a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officers, Frank Mba.

The IGP called for a similar level of citizens’ cooperation and support for the police and other relevant agencies in other places especially in Osun State where similar elections would take place soon.

“He enjoins citizens to remain calm, confident, hopeful and trusting in the ability of the Police and other relevant agencies to discharge their constitutional mandate of ensuring the safety of lives and property and protecting the democratic rights and freedoms of the citizens,” Mba said.

He pledged the preparedness of the Force to consolidate and re-enact the Ekiti security success story in other future elections.

The Inspector-General also commended the Police personnel and other security agencies assigned to election duties in Ekiti for their professional conduct throughout the election period, noting that their exemplary conduct is an eloquent indicator of the readiness of the Force to provide the needed atmosphere for future elections in the country. Finally he charged the officers to remain focused and committed in the discharge of their duties to their fatherland.
