Kwara State Police Command has announced that it would start screening prospective housemaids before they are engaged by their prospective bosses, saying it is part of measures to improve security in the state.

Ambrose Aisabor, the state’s Police commissioner made the pronouncement on Tuesday while addressing a seminar on security awareness organised by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Ilorin, the state capital.

Represented by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, Aisabor told security operatives and other seminar participants, from all the 16 local government areas of the state that proper screening of the stewards would improve security of lives and property.

He advised residents willing to engage housemaids to contact the command for the screening, pointing out that some crimes, aided by housemaids, have been witnessed in the past. He charged the residents to be security conscious and provide useful information to security agents in order to promptly curb crime.

The state Director of NOA, Felix Olowokere, enjoined the participants to take the issues discussed at the seminar seriously, because the seminar was specifically organised to remind people of the need to be more security conscious.

Olowokere also urged participants to suggest ideas on how to sustain peace and harmony in the state and improve security.
