Following several promises by the international community to support Nigeria in rescuing the more than 200 girls kidnapped in Chibok, Borno State, America has disclosed that it is sending in manned surveillance missions equipped to interrupt a large spectrum of radio communications in order to find the pupils.

The development was made known on by an official sources, on Tuesday. The officials also acknowledged that the country is currently sharing commercial satellite imagery with the Nigerian government, in an attempt to locate the girls.

“We have shared commercial satellite imagery with the Nigerians and are flying manned ISR [intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance] assets over Nigeria with the government’s permission,” the official who pleaded for anonymity said.

He revealed that a team of American experts made up of the FBI and defence and state departments are already in Nigeria to help with the operation.

Meanwhile analysis has revealed that the video released by Boko Haram on Monday, where many of the girls were seen wearing full hijab, may have been shot in Sambisa forest.  According to the analysis, vegetation seen in the video matches the vegetation in the forest reserve area.

Apart from the American team of experts, Britain, France and China have also deployed special teams to consolidate the efforts already on ground.
