The Chairman House Committee on Information, Strategy, Security and Publicity of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Segun Olulade has reassured Lagosians that Lagos State, in spite of its vast population has been among the safest place to live in Nigeria and is still a safe place despite the security challenges the nation is facing.
Olulade made the assertion to journalists on Friday, while reacting to reports that Lagos is on the target list of the insurgents in the nearest future.
According to Olulade, Lagos has continually tackled security challenges orchestrated by its demographic status as a mega and modern society and the government is not relenting, applying most appropriate measures to the new security challenge the country is facing.
“In times past, you would recall that criminals and hoodlums were taking advantage of the congestion in Lagos to unleash terror on innocent citizens, but that has become a thing of the past. In same vein, Lagos has been deploying modern technologies and manpower to curtail any possible aggressions and forestall unforeseen circumstances that could be damaging,” Olulade said.
“The present administration in Lagos State is serious about protection of lives and properties of its citizens; Lagos cannot afford a distortion of peoples’ lives and rights to live freely.
He said the recent deployment of mass security vans and motorbikes to aid security patrols and on-the-spot check around the state is another effort at reducing security challenges in the state.
He charged the state’s citizens to continue cooperating with the government, so as to check security breach rather than choosing to live in fear of unknown.
“The first defensive measure against terror is to be united against it. We have vast population but we are safe. The components of the state do not accommodate space for terrors. People of several ethnic backgrounds live in Lagos but we are all united against external aggression,” Olulade said.
He assured that terror attacks in nation would soon be halted with the growing support by the international community against the heartless insurgents.
Olulade tasked the Federal Government to strengthen its foresight by beginning post-terror strategies for keeping the nation safe, looking critically into issues capable of aiding terror dispositions such as corruption, high poverty rate, low literacy level in the North and other factors.
