Former Governor of old Kwara State, Alhaji Adamu Attah, is dead.
Attah, the first civilian governor of the state before it was split into Kogi and Kwara, died in his house in Abuja on Thursday at 83 after a protracted illness.
He was buried in Kuroko, Okene at about 5pm according to Islamic rites witnessed by Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State, the Deputy Governor of the state, Yomi Awiniyi, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Alhaji Ado Ibrahim and other prominent Nigerians.
The late former governor was a lawyer and prince of Ebiraland. He became the first civilian governor of the state in 1979, under the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
Adamu Attah is a polo enthusiast, and owner of the Fifth Chukker Club and Resorts.
In his condolence message, Governor Abdul-Fatah Ahmed of Kwara State, described the death of the former governor as a rude shock.
Another message by former Governor Bukola Saraki, signed by his Personal Assistant, Bankole Omisore, described the late Attah as a true statesman who loved Nigeria dearly.
He said though gone, the Attah’s influence can never be underestimated in Kwara politics.
Saraki said Kwara would miss Attah’s departure for his wealth of wisdom on the history of the state.
