Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi’s campaign organisation has alleged that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Ayo Fayose, is planning to burn his office and claim it was done by rival All Progressives Congress (APC).
The organisation made the allegation on Wednesday, through a statement released by one Dimeji Daniels, claiming that the campaign group gathered the intelligence from a reliable source.
“We gathered from reliable sources that Mr. Ayodele Fayose who is known for such stunts in the past will any moment from now set his campaign office on fire and rush to the press to blame it on APC,” Daniels alleged in the statement.
“Few weeks ago, he planned with his thugs to be shot so as to gain sympathy of the electorate and this explains why he started wearing bulletproof jacket to his campaign rallies.
He only dropped the idea when he realised it has leaked.”
The campaign group expressed belief that Fayose would have blamed the premeditated shooting on the APC and Fayemi, if it had succeeded.
Absolving APC from any evil that may befall Fayose, the group cleared the air for APC, describing the party as peace-loving.
“We wish to state for the umpteenth time that the APC-led government under Governor Kayode Fayemi is peace-loving and this explains why the state has been peaceful in the last three and a half years until recently when Mr. Fayose’s emergence brought back the forgotten days of one week one trouble,” the group said.
“We wish to state that should Mr. Fayose’s office suddenly go on fire, he is responsible for it, as we don’t have anything to do with it. The excellent performance of our candidate in the last 42 months in office is enough campaign for us, so we don’t need violence because Ekiti people are with us.”
The group also alleged that the Labour Party (LP) has opened a camp ground for thugs in Ondo State who are to be ferried to Ekiti State in the last week to the gubernatorial election.
“Some of the thugs, based in Ondo State, are already on the payroll of the State Governor, Olusegun Mmiko,” Daniels said.
“Opeyemi Bamidele is part of the Abuja script to cause mayhem in the run-up to the election with the intention of causing voter apathy. The LP candidate has been going about with thugs, unleashing mayhem on every community he visits.”
The group further stated that according to its sources, Bamidele was conscripted because of his gentle mien which is believed would mask whatever violence he perpetrates.
“We call on all well-meaning Ekiti indigenes and Nigerians to prevail on these harbingers of retrogression to desist from their evil ways as the collective interests and well-being of Ekiti is greater than all” Daniels concluded.
