President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has registered his condolence with the family of Nigeria’s vice president, Architect Namadi Sambo over the loss of his immediate younger brother, Yusuf Sambo who died in an auto crash on Sunday.
Commiserating with Sambo through a statement issued on Monday, Oritsejafor said the loss was not only for the Sambo family, but for the whole country. He prayed to God to give the deceased’s family the fortitude to endure the loss.
The auto crash which claimed Yusuf’s life occurred along Airport Road in Abuja. His remains have been interred at a cemetery in Abuja according to Muslim rites.
Sambo, had been representing Nigeria in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, at the Country’s golden jubilee when he heard of the accident. He had immediately left the assignment to pay his last respect to his brother at a brief funeral rite at the National Mosque, Abuja.
President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience had immediately led a high power delegation to condole with grieving Sambo.
Commenting about his loss at his official residence in Akinola Aguda, Abuja, Sambo described Yusuf as one of the finest pilots ever in the nation, he further said the circumstances surrounding his brother’s death made the loss all the more saddening.
While consoling his deputy, Jonathan, who got the news while on his way back to Abuja from Bayelsa had expressed grief, saying humans are mere mortals and death is a journey everybody must make.
“We are all mere mortals. All of us are from the earth we must all go back to the earth. We do not know the timing of this journey all of us must make,” he said.
“This world is a place where we come to play our different roles. He left too early. Maybe he left when the ovation is loudest. He left at a time we needed him most. But there is nothing we can do.”
Sambo had thanked the President for leading the delegation to condole with him.
Other people present at Sambo’s house to console him were: Governor Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State; Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Muhammed; Minister of Defence, Aliyu Guasu; Minister of State, Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro; former Minister of Defense, Haliru Bello Moh’d, and National Security Adviser ( NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki.
