Following Sunday’s attack where a five-year-old girl was burnt to death, Bauchi State Governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, has ordered that the 200 students currently in Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Yana, should be evacuated from the premises.

Alhaji Ibrahim Aminu, the state’s commissioner for education, explained to journalist on Monday that the students were moved to another location so that renovations can commence on the buildings burnt by the attackers.

According to Aminu, the evacuation is only for three weeks, during which the destroyed buildings would be rebuilt, and then the pupils would be returned to the school.

“Only students in their final year, writing Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination, are in school”, Aminu said. “Because JSS 1-3 and SSS 1-2 are on break, we want to use this period to renovate the destroyed buildings to enable them learn in a favourable environment when they resume”.

Aminu assured that the evacuation was not connected to security issues raised by the Sunday attack, assuring that adequate security measures have been put in place by the state government.
