Gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram on Sunday attacked Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) in Yana, Bauchi State.
An eyewitness who spoke to our correspondent said suspected gunmen set ablaze some houses in the staff quarters of the school, charring a five-year old girl to death.
Bauchi State Police Spokesperson, DSP Haruna Mohammed, said the gunmen also stole a car belonging to the principal of the school while destroying a telecommunication mast in the town.
Mohammed then assured the public that other students in the school were safe, as security has been quickly beefed up around the premises.
Unknown gunmen attacked the staff quarters of GGSS Yana, Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State, around 2.30am on Sunday”, Mohammed said. “They set the school bus ablaze; and in the process, a five-year-old girl was killed in the fire while they destroyed the vault of a bank’’.
Mohammed assured that security forces are now on the trail of the attackers.
