Wives of governors in the northern states of Nigeria, under the aegis of Northern Governor’s Wives Forum (NGWF), have condemned the kidnapping of over the 120 pupils of Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) , Chibok in Borno state by members of the Boko Haram sect, on Monday.
The governor’s wives pleaded with the kidnappers to release the girls unconditionally. They strongly condemned the abduction, describing the kidnapped pupils as “harmless students and future mothers whose lives should not be traumatised, but protected and safeguarded by all.”
NGWF made the pleading in Markudi, Benue State, in a statement signed by Mrs. Yemisi Suswam, chairperson of the forum, after an emergency meeting of the forum.
According to the statement, NGWF bemoaned the tragic bombing that claimed more than 70 lives in Nyanya bus station in Abuja on Monday.
Comiserating with, families of the victims and praying for the quick recovery of the injured, NGWF urged politicians to desist from playing politics with the insecurity issues of the country.
The women said they appreciate the efforts of the federal government to contain the security threats, charging them to sought help from other countries to quickly bring the challenge to a halt.
They called on security agencies especially the immigration services to work harder on their part.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service should step up efforts to check the influx of illegal foreigners and dangerous materials into country in our bid to end the threat to security and peace in the country”, Suswam said in the statement.
They charged the government to create more jobs that would keep the youths creatively and positively engages, so that they would not be attracted to vices and activities that may undermine the unity of the nation.
