Senator Iyiola Omisore, the former Senate Appropriation Committee Chairman, has won the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primary election for gubernatorial candidates in Osun State.

Omisore picked the ticket on Saturday after winning with 1,128 votes to defeat former Minister of Youth Development, Senator Olasunkanmi Akinlabi, and former House of Representatives Defence Committee chairman Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke, with 45 and 5 votes respectively.

There were formerly four contenders for the ticket, but former Governor of the state, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke withdrew from the race 24 hours to the primaries alleging that the process wreaks of manipulation in favour of Omisore.

Chairman of the Electoral Committee, former Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Mohammed Adamu Aliero, pointed out that 1,280 delegates were  accredited for the election.

Delivering his acceptance speech, Omisore held that his  victory in the election belongs to  all the party members, applauding Akinlabi and Oke  for graciously accepting defeat.

He commended the  peaceful manner in which the election was conducted  saying it proves  that PDP is set to overthrow the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) from the state’s  helm of affairs . Akinlabi and Oke promised to work with Omishore to see PDP achieve the feat.
