Security has been tightened around the Presidential Villa, following the jailbreak attempt by members of the Boko Haram Islamist sect at the headquarters of the State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja, which resulted in crossfire with Nigerian soldiers.
The left axis of the SSS Headquarters, which is adjacent to the Gate 7 entrance to the Presidential Villa, has now been fully armed by soldiers.
Another set of soldiers is manning the Aso Drive region leading to the SSS headquarters, entering from the Luigi Barracks flyover.
It is the same at the entrance of the headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force close to the Presidential Villa.
Also, both lanes of the road directly in front of the Force Headquarters have been barricaded with Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC). Only one of the lanes was barricaded before the attack.
Meanwhile, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati has confirmed that the attack did not have any effect on the Villa or the president’s security.
“What happened at the SSS HQs has nothing to do with the Villa”, he wrote on his Twitter account. “President Jonathan is safe and well. Thank you for your concern and support”.
