Kidnappers of President Goodluck Jonathan’s cousin, Chief Inengite Nitabai have contacted the family to demand a ransom of N500m.

The septuagenarian was kidnapped on Sunday by 10 armed men who laid siege on his compound at Otuoke in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, robbed his wife of a sum of N400,000 and then whisked him away in his Sports Utility Vehicle.

Although the vehicle was subsequently recovered at Unuegbum Community Waterfront to spark thoughts that the kidnappers escaped via the creek, the president’s cousin has not been seen ever since.

On Thursday, the abductors contacted the family to demand the N500m ransom, which the family described as outrageous. The family has since kept mum over the demand, but a source revealed that kidnappers gave an ultimatum, after which they threatened to kill their victim if they hadn’t received the payment.

It was learnt that the family has raised a team to negotiate with the abductors in order to secure the release of Pa Nitabai.

“The kidnappers contacted the family four days after and demanded a whooping sum of N500m”, the source said. “The family of the victim has begun negotiations with the hoodlums”.
