Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal has denied reports of his positive disposition to defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking after a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his Hilltop Mansion in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, Tambuwal restated his loyalty to the ruling party and to the former president, whom he described as a leader of international repute whose opinions must be sought on crucial national issues.
“I have come to visit our PDP national leader. Baba Obasanjo and I are still in PDP. I have come to consult with him on matters of national interest”, he said.
“Baba Obasanjo is a leader not only in Nigeria, but in Africa; and it is only appropriate for us in positions of authority and leadership to occasionally come and consult him on matters of national interest and that is why I am here”.
He hinted that some of the issues he might have discussed with Obasanjo are the Petrol Industry and the Constitution amendment.
“There are many other important legislations before the parliament”, Tambuwal added. “So, we need to consult our leaders on such important and vital issues, to get inputs from them before we conclude deliberations”.
Tambuwal also answered questions on last week’s removal of Governor of Central Bacnk of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido, lamenting that the action portends grave danger to the economy, as it could erode investor confidence in the nation’s financial institution.
Well, whether it is lawful, legal or illegal, the personality involved has told everybody that he is going to court and I believe that he is already in court on that suspension”, he said.
“On the implications on the economy, I’m not an economist but I personally feel that will definitely send wrong signals to investors because, you need to have confidence in a financial institution, particularly the independence of the financial institution of a country, before investors will consider such a country worthy of their investments”.
Accompanying the speaker on the trip were Deputy Minority Leader, Kawu Sumaila (Kano), Ajibola Muraina(Osun) and Aminu Shagari (Sokoto).
