At least 29 died and another 17 were injured on Saturday morning in an attack on Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
Julius Bala, the head of the youth vigilante group in the area, confirmed that a total of 29 dead bodies and 17 injured others were counted immediately after the attack.
He condemned men of the Special task Force in Plateau (codenamed Operation Safe Haven) for always arriving at scenes of the killings only after the gunmen have escaped.
“The Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Police claimed to have established a Joint Security Committee comprising community leaders, Police, SSS, STF and so on, for intelligence gathering towards stopping the attacks, but nothing has happened”, he said.
The Police in the State confirmed the attack, but did not state exactly how many people died and how many were injured.
Thirteen people were killed in the same Barkin Ladi Local Government on Thursday, specifically in Rapyem Village, Fan District. At least 163 people have been killed this year alone in attacks in the state.
