Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar believes that his new party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) is committed to building a strong and united party.
Speaking in Sokoto State during a courtesy call on Governor of the state, Aliyu Wamakko, Atiku said everyone in the party has laid aside his individual ambition in order to build a formidable party.
“For now, we are not talking about how to pursuing our selfish political aspirations”, he said. “We are collectively working to ensure the growth of the APC”.
He revealed that more than 80 per cent of his political supporters are in support of his decampment to APC because he consulted nationwide before taking the step. He added that that Nigeria is in serious need for change, and thanked the people of Sokoto for always supporting him, especially remembering that he secured the highest number of votes from delegates of the state delegates at the 2011 PDP presidential primaries.
In his response, Wamakko said APC’s plan is to first salvage the North, and then the country in general. He also implored leaders of the party to always allow national interests supersede individual interests.
“I am appealing to you not to repeat the costly blunders of 2011 in order to achieve our vision and mission of salvaging Nigeria”, he said. “The patriotism and political sagacity required to build a stronger APC would see us emerge victorious in 2015. Good governance cannot thrive where there is no social justice and respect for the rule of law, so nobody should be seen to be above the law, and corruption must be squarely tackled without minding whose ox is gored”.
