As part of his determination to reunite warring members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Chairman of the party Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu on Friday held a closed-door meeting with former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida.
Leading a team of 15 loyal party leaders, Muazu got to the Minna Uphill residence of Babaginda at about midday and immediately set about the closed-door meeting, which lasted a little over an hour.
Some of those who accompanied Muazu to the meeting are National Youth Leader of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Maibasera; former Speaker of the Federal House of Representative, Alhaji Gali Umar Na’aba; and Acting Chairman of the party in the state, Tanko Beji. But they did not participate in the meeting, leaving the two leaders to themselves.
After the meeting, Babangida was asked for comments by newsmen but he declined, rebuffing several attempts and insisting that he would not utter a word.
However, Muazu told the media that his visit was expectedly part of the peace moves he has been resuscitating since his emergence as Chairman of the party.
“I am here in continuation of my visit to our elders and I had a fruitful meeting with the former President. It was a fruitful meeting”, he said. “What we discussed is not meant for public consumption. All I can say is that we had a fruitful discussion”.
He subsequently held another meeting with Governor of Niger State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu.
