The state also budgeted N350 million for bursary award for final year students of the state in higher institutions, and another N100 million for scholarship award for students embarking on Master’s degree within or outside the country.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education in the state, Mr Lawrence Oyeniran, while disclosing this in Osogbo, the state capital during the 2014 budget defence before the state House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, added that a total of 32,075 students would benefit from the fund for the enrolment for the WAEC examination but that to qualify, the students must have have 90 per cent class attendance.
Apart from this condition, parents and guardians of the students must also have 70 per cent attendance at Parents Teachers Association (PTA) meetings of the various schools attended by their children and wards.
He said only indigenes would benefit from the bursary, adding: “Osun indigenes who may also want to pursue courses within or outside the country would be assisted through the scholarship scheme. For any student to qualify for the scholarship, he or she must have second class upper division”.
