A-46-year-old woman identified as Hajiya Belkisu Mahmoud on Monday slumped and died in the office of Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu.
According to an eyewitness, the mother of three had been waiting for several hours to see the governor but was denied access on the ground that the governor was attending to an accumulation of files courtesy of the Yuletide and New Year breaks.
However, shortly after she was ushered into the governor’s office, she slumped and died immediately. The woman, who was suspected to be asthmatic, was immediately rushed to the Minna General Hospital where a doctor confirmed her passing on.
It was subsequently discovered that the woman, an asthma patient and former Staff Officer (SO) in the Deputy Governor’s office, was on a private visit to the governor. She had to spend several hours in the waiting hall because her name was not on the approved protocol list of those to see Governor Aliyu.
The Government House has not issued an official statement on the incident, while medical staffers at the Minna General Hospital have refrained from commenting on the matter.
