Residents of Igbobi-Sabe in the Yaba area of Lagos State are vowing not to allow peace reign in the community until the State Government moves against the imposition of a monarch on the community.

According to them, Owolabi Bakare, who was installed as the community’s Oba on Saturday afternoon, is not the original person entitled to the throne.

The protesters had earlier stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly over the allegation that the man was imposed as the favoured candidate for the post of the Oba.

Leader of the protesters and former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Bashiru Fashina also said Mr. Adeyemi Bakare was not the popular candidate the community wanted as their next Oba.

He established that, “24 hours ago, it came to our knowledge that a neutral person who the community does not know was chosen and to be coroneted”, imploring the House to immediately stop the coronation to forestall peace and tranquility in the area.

The protesters in their numbers carrying placards with different inscriptions including: “We don’t want Bakare as our Oba”, “Ademola Salami is our Candidate”, “Assembly should save us from this imposition”, among others, were received by Chairman, House Committee on Information, Security, Strategy and Publicity of the House, Hon. Segun Olulade, who also assured them that the House would look into their plight with a view to bringing peace to the community.

He however, promised that all concerned parties would be invited to the House for proper investigations. However, in what seems like an exercise in futility for the protesters, the same Bakare was installed on Saturday at the Yaba Local Council Secretariat, following the approval of the State Government.
