Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar has announced the redeployment of seven senior officers of the Force, comprising five assistant inspectors-general of police and two commissioners.

However, the redeployment did not affect Joseph Mbu, commissioner of police in Rivers State, despite the calls for his transfer from the state following his role in the crisis that has engulfed the state and prevented the State House of Assembly from holding sitting.

Among the senior police officers redeployed is former Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ballah M. Nasarawa, who was recently promoted to the position of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police. He has been posted as the AIG in charge of Zone 9, Umuahia–covering Abia, Imo, Enugu and Anambra State Commands while Usman Gwary is now to take charge of Anambra State Police Command.

The posting, which is with immediate effect, also has AIG David Omojola now in charge of Zone 11 comprising Osun, Ondo, Oyo; AIG Tambai Yabo Mohammed is now in charge of Zone 1 including Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina.

Also, AIG Edgar T. Nanakumo now takes charge of the Force Animal Branch, AIG

Mohammed J. Gana now takes charge of Zone 12 comprising Bauchi, Borno, and Yobe; and CP Saidu Madawaki is now in charge of Kogi state.

Frank Mba, force public relations officer, said the posting is in line with IGP Abubakar’s avowed efforts towards building a people-friendly Police Force.

He said the IGP charged the affected officers to ensure that they step up the fight against crimes and criminalities, and called on them to ensure that the safety and security of lives and properties of the citizenry are not compromised.
