The Bayelsa State Government has condemned the inter-communal clash between Akenfa and Agudama-Epie communities in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state that reportedly resulted in the death of three people and injuries to many more.

In a statement release on Friday, the government expressed dismay with the ugly situation and urged the feuding communities to sheathe their sword pending the outcome of the investigation of a panel set up by the government.

Headed by Deputy Governor of the state, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah, Rtd, members of the panel are the Commissioner of Police, Director of the State Security Service, the Commissioner of Lands and Survey and the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor.

“The setting up of the committee becomes imperative in order to find a lasting solution to the lingering crisis,” read a part of the statement.

“However, where such cannot be achieved, the government will be forced to invoke a section of the constitution and take over the ownership of the land in accordance with the laws of the land. Security operatives have been deployed to the area to prevent any form of reprisal attack by either of the feuding parties”.

Meanwhile, representatives of the affected communities have been summoned to a meeting with the committee by 7am on Saturday, 23rd November 2013 at the Deputy Governor’s office, Government House, Yenagoa.
