The Bayelsa State Government has strongly condemned the constant recourse to lawlessness and brigandage often exhibited by some known criminal gangs, cult leaders and their fellow cultists, and funded by political opponents who have formed the habit of blocking federal highways and infringing on the rights of law abiding citizens.

According to Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters,Col. Bernard Kenebai, Rtd who noted with dismay, the disruption of human and vehicular movements at the Mbiama end of the ever-busy East/West road by cult leaders and their followers, government will no longer tolerate such acts of lawlessness and ensure that any person, irrespective of his or her status, who takes the laws into his or hands is dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land.

“Government views the action of Tuesday, 20th November 2013, with serious dismay, whereby innocent citizens were subjected to untold hardship by criminal elements, who clearly avoided carrying out their action in Bayelsa State, knowing the government’s posture of zero tolerance on crime and criminality”, Kenebai said.

“We urge security agencies across the states in the country to share information, with a view to tracking down acts of crime and criminality. The government is hereby warning these disgruntled persons to desist from such acts, as it will not fold its arms and watch such acts of lawlessness, and it will collaborate with Federal law enforcement agencies to ensure that such persons are brought to book”.

He assured that security operatives have been put on red alert to prevent any reoccurrence of this dastardly act, and warned that security agencies operating in Bayelsa State are federal agencies and have the empowerment to deal with any breach of the law anywhere.
