There will be uninterrupted supply of petroleum products during the forthcoming yuletide season and beyond all over the country, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) assured on Wednesday.

According to Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Engr. Andrew Yakubu who was speaking in Abuja at the commissioning of customised P-56 Hydraulic Platform designed to combat eventual fire-outbreak at the four-tower NNPC headquarters, there is enough fuel to serve the whole country.

“As we speak, I can confirm that we have enough stock of petroleum products to last from now to the end of the yuletide season and even beyond”, Yakubu said. “Throughout the year, we have kept the entire nation wet with products and we have the capacity to sustain the tempo”.

He appealed to consumers of petroleum products to refrain from any form of panic buying in anticipation of scarcity of fuel, while revealing that the need to ensure adequate preparation against any eventuality necessitated the procurement of the modern fire-platform.

He assured that the facility, the first of its kind in Nigeria, would be made available for the use of other high-rise buildings in Abuja and its environs.

“In line with our Corporate Social Responsibility package we are open to distress call from our neighbours”, he added.

The unveiling of the facility was the climax of the 2013 NNPC HSE Week celebrated under the theme, Overcoming HSE Challenges.

Earlier in his presentation, Yakubu noted that current industry trends confirm that HSE compliance is increasingly gaining attention worldwide, and therefore stressed that HSE has become a powerful tool and vital driver toward business sustainability, higher productivity, risk mitigation and control as well as hazards minimization that promote sustainable development.

“In line with the corporation’s vision and the ongoing transformative efforts, we must exhibit behaviours that promote zero tolerance to unsafe acts and conditions”, he said, adding that “this will provide necessary platform to overcome HSE challenges in our march towards attainment of excellence”.
