Governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Al-Makura on Friday reshuffled his cabinet in furtherance of his bid to “run an effective government”.None of the commissioners or other aides was sacked in the cabinet reshuffle.

In a statement made available to journalists in Lafia by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hajiya Zainab Abdulmumin, concerning the reshuffle, eight commissioners were redeployed while 11 others retained their portfolios.

According to the statement, said Commissioner for Local Government, Yakubu Hauwa had been redeployed to Education, Science and Technology. Adamu Mua’zu, who was commissioner for culture and tourism, was redeployed to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Danladi Madaki, who was commissioner for environment, was redeployed to Agriculture and Water Resources while Hussaini Abubakar, who was commissioner for education, was transferred to Finance and Economic Development.

Also, Commissioner for Finance, Muhammad Dan’azimi was redeployed to Local Government Administration; Commissioner for Agriculture, Samuel Meshi was transferred to Tourism and Culture; Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Godwin Mbatsav was moved to the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development; while Commissioner for Sports and Youths Development, Angama Weibey now takes charge of Rural and Community Development.

The statement added that the governor had approved the appointment of the rector and provosts of the state-owned tertiary institutions. These are: Dr Rebecca Umaru, Acting Provost, College of Education, Akwanga; Dr Muhammad Salihu, Acting Provost, College of Agriculture Lafia; and Dr Silas Gyar, Acting Rector, Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia. They are to resume work immediately.

According to the SSG, the appointments were based on the recommendations of the reports of the visitation panels and are in line with the determination of the administration to reposition and strengthen tertiary education in the state.
