The Transmission Company of Nigeria late Sunday announced a further dip in the nation’s power generation capacity, saying power will drop by 400 megawatts beginning from Monday through Saturday.

The company said as a result, the country would witness a six-day power rotation, but explained that the drop in power generation is because of maintenance work on one of Shell Petroleum Development Company’s gas plant.Nigeria has been toggling between 2,500 and 3,500 megawatts for some time now.

Days before the Federal Government handed over stations and power companies to their new owners, there was power failure in many parts of the country, with residents experiencing total blackouts for days.

“There will be a reduction in generation output by 400MW, from Monday 4th to Saturday, 9th November 2013,” the firm wrote in a terse statement.

“This is due to the SPDC’s scheduled maintenance work on Okoloma gas plant supplying gas to Afam VI power plant, thereby leading to the shutdown of the power plant, resulting in nationwide power rationing.”
